WRITTEN ON THE SOUL

Veteran journalist Sylvia Vollenhoven’s just-published spiritual and political memoir, The Keeper of The Kumm – Ancestral Longing and Belonging of a Boesmankind, arrives at a critical moment in the post-apartheid deconstruction of identity, what it means to be Black, African or a First Person in South Africa. The memoir dovetails beautifully with the stream of consciousness that has been released in the slipstream of Wayde van Niekerk’s spectacular Olympic victory.
Hallo Sylvia! What an inspiration and living witness of what the past means to us. I’m in the process of collecting the pieces of my family history. It’s not an easy road to travel because you open up long held secrets by your families.
Thank you for your story and the courage to relate it in words. I’m aware that some the experiences you cannot put in words because it is above the realm of the words wanting to express it.
